‘Bring It On’ Cast Reunites, Reflects on Film 15 Years Later

On Today, the cast of Bring It On reunited to celebrate the film’s release 15 years ago. Roger Ebert called Bring It On the Citizen Kane of cheerleader movies, but actresses Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku never anticipated the film’s success at the time. “It didn’t have the budget, it didn’t feel like the studio really cared what we were doing down there, no offense to them. But it felt like we were off in our own little bubble,” said Dushku, who was on hand with stars Gabrielle Union and Jesse Bradford as well.

At the surface Bring It On is a fun teen comedy, but the film’s ability to approach some heavier topics was what helped it resonate with fans. As Union says, “There are larger themes, but we did it in such a fun, campy way that, you know, kind of slid in the message,” which allowed for the viewer to still enjoy it for what it was.

There was also a lot of fun had by actors , including a little incident in Rosarito, Mexico. Bradford and Dushku were arrested but were able to bail themselves out. That story is just a small example of how the group was able to bond off-camera, a chemistry that is definitely apparent throughout the movie.
