Brightside Music Fest featuring Steve Aoki, Hatch Green Chile on tap for weekend

We've got a busy weekend coming up with the start of Labor Day events in El Paso.

The St. Anthony's Seminary will have its anticipated annual bazaar this weekend, and the Magoffin Home is offering a fun cooking class that celebrates apple season. Ascarate Park will be the place for a fun, Latin, hip hop night, featuring Steve Aoki. The anniversary of Juan Gabriel's death is remembered this weekend, too, with a special event in Juárez.

There are plenty of events in and around El Paso this weekend, but if you want to head out of town for a bit, be sure to look at events in Hatch and Ruidoso.

Here is a closer look at upcoming events across the borderland region.

Music at the Park

The Music at the Park series continues from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 at Grandview Park, 3100 Jefferson Ave. All the free outdoor music events will include live bands and performances, interactive activities, vendors, informational booths, giveaways and food trucks.

Celebrate Juan Gabriel in Juárez

Juan Gabriel fans can also look forward to a Callejoneada, sort of a street fest, starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 at the Semjase, located between Ignacio Mejía y Ramón Corona streets. Singing groups will be singing various Juan Gabriel songs along the way, hitting the Plaza Tin Tán arriving to the Mercado Juárez and finally Perú street. The celebration will end at the house of the Divo on Avenida 16 de Septiembre.

Magoffin Home State Historic site offers cooking classes

The Magoffin Home State Historic will have an Apple Fritters cooking class from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 2 at 1120 Magoffin Ave. Cost: $5 per person. The recipe is from the 1898 El Paso Cook Book. Information: 915-533-5147 Ext. 1002 or email magoffin-home@thc.texas.gov.

St. Anthony's Bazaar

This will be the 60th year that the Franciscan seminary celebrates the St. Anthony's Bazaar, known for its gorditas and enchiladas booths, fun loteria game and other carnival games, as well as live entertainment. The bazaar will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday through Monday, Sept. 2-4 at 4601 Hastings Drive. Admission is free.

Latin, Hip hop and Indie music at Ascarate Park

The Brightside Music Festival, featuring a variety of artists, including Steve Aoki, will take over Ascarate Park, Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 2-3. The festival will feature electronic, Latin, hip hop and indie music. Performers will include Alesso, Metro Boomin, and Young Giant.

The festival is for music lovers of all ages. However, some VIP areas require people to be 21 or older. VIP access will begin at 2 p.m., while general admission access will be at 3 p.m. One-day general admission tickets are $129, plus fees, and include access to three stages. Parking will be $10.00 cash per day.

Hatch Green Chile Festival

The Hatch Chile Festival is one of the most popular fall festivals in the region. This year it will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2-3, at 133 N. Franklin St. in Hatch, New Mexico. The festival will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days.

The festival includes chile roasting, vendors for food, carnival rides, eating contests, and entertainment on two stages in the village of Hatch, known as the Chile Capital of the World.

Harvest Wine Festival

The Harvest Wine Festival in Las Cruces, which celebrates New Mexico's best wineries, exceptional food trucks, talented artisans and award-winning musicians, will be held from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday through Monday, Sept. 2-4 at the Southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds. The address is 12125 Robert Larson Blvd. in Las Cruces. General admission tickets are $30 in advance and are available online at holdmyticket.com. Tickets will be $35 at the door.

End of Summer bash at Inn of the Mountain Gods

The Inn of the Mountain Gods will have its End of Summer bash from 3 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3 near Mescalero Lake, New Mexico. The free, family-friendly event will feature a live DJ and concessions. Buy a $10 wristband for the kids to enjoy jumping balloons and other activities.

The day concludes with fireworks over Lake Mescalero at dusk. Guests may bring their own chairs and blankets. BBQ grills of any kind are not allowed. Ice chests are allowed; however, no outside alcoholic beverages or food can be brought in.
