The Blue Bloods star, 52, caught up with PEOPLE at the 2023 Global Citizen Festival on Saturday, and shared that she and John "Jack" Edward Thomas Moynahan, 16, enjoy dipping into each other’s music tastes.

At the New York City event — which was headlined by BTS, Lauryn Hill, Anitta and Red Hot Chili Peppers — Moynahan said she is a big fan of both Hill and the “Californication” rockers.

“I get to introduce the Red Hot Chili Peppers to my son, and he's introducing me to some of the other artists and D-Nice and everybody,” she told PEOPLE.

According to the actress, Jack also shares some of his favorite musicians with his mom.

When asked who Jack has introduced her to, she said, “Well, all of his friends are kind of tuned into almost everybody that's on the list tonight or who has already performed.”

“And so it's just nice that we're all coming together at different ages and being able to enjoy this evening and all the different musical performers,” she added.

Outside of its headliners, the free festival — which is hosted by the international advocacy organization Global Citizen — also boasted a genre-spanning lineup of artists including Conan Gray, 3RACHA and Sofia Carson.

The festival aims to call on world leaders to address issues such as poverty, equity for women and girls, and the climate crisis.

Moynahan expressed enthusiasm about the event's mission, telling PEOPLE, “I was really excited to see how many people are out there in the rain, enjoying themselves, because nothing's going to stop this generation.”

“It's just incredible, the passion that this young generation has for social change, whether it's vaccinations or climate change or whatever their interest is,” she continued. “They are out there and they're making a difference and they showed up tonight. So it's great.”

The actress shares Jack with ex Tom Brady. The pair welcomed the now-teenager after they broke up in 2006. While Jack spent more time with his mother growing up, it was still important to both of his parents that he shared a close relationship with Brady and his then-wife, Gisele Bündchen.

"My son has two loving parents and an extended family, whether it's cousins or stepmothers or boyfriends," Moynahan told More in 2011, adding that Jack is “surrounded by love."

Years later, in 2019, the actress told PEOPLE that she was grateful for the support of Brady's former spouse in raising Jack.

"Tom and I made a decision to raise a child together and we both found partners that not only supported us in raising that child, but also loved our child as if he was their own," said the actress, who married Andrew Frankel in 2015.

“I don't think you can ask for more than that,” she added.

More recently, Moynahan said that as Jack nears adulthood, she doesn’t want her acting career or Brady’s pro football fame to influence what he chooses to do professionally.

“I really think that he's kind of like that normal kid who doesn't really know what he wants to do yet and I think that's okay," Moynahan said on Live with Kelly and Mark in June. “I certainly don't want to put any pressure on him to do what I do or what his father does.”
