Dearest gentle readers, Penelope and Colin enter into a unique agreement in the Bridgerton season three trailer.

The characters, portrayed by Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton, join forces to help Penelope find a husband this season, as she is eager to move out of her home but struggles to stand out in the ‘ton despite taking on a whole new wardrobe.

“We have been apart for far too long,” the Julie Andrews-voiced Lady Whistledown says in the look (below) at the upcoming season of the hit Netflix series. “At last, London’s fashionable set has made its return, and it seems that our Bon Ton is moving with the changing tide. So, too, is this author.”

As Penelope and Colin (dubbed “Polin”) begin working together to help her find a husband, the pair find that it may be harder than it seemed at first.

“I would not be angry if you found me a lost cause,” Penelope tells Colin, as he responds, “You must not say such things. You are Penelope Featherington. Do not forget that.”

Over the course of the two-minute, 30-second trailer, audiences get a glimpse at Lord Debling’s (Sam Phillips) courtship of Penelope as the two embark on a journey that draws them to each other. But it isn’t long before Colin begins to realize that perhaps there’s something more between him and his longtime friend.

“Mother, do you believe the best foundation for love is friendship?” Colin asks his mother, Lady Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell). She responds, “It is rare, but you must follow your heart.”

As the trailer comes to a close, Andrews’ Whistledown raises two of the biggest questions of the season: “What is the primary force that guides us along our paths? Is it our minds or our hearts?”

Unlike the previous two seasons that followed in order the first two novels in Julia Quinn’s series did, the third season puts Penelope and Colin at the forefront instead of Benedict (Luke Thompson). The story is based on the fourth book in Quinn’s best-selling series, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, skipping over Benedict (Luke Thompson) for the time being. The plan from the start was for each season of Bridgerton to focus on a different one of the eight Bridgerton siblings and their quest for marriage.

Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, Claudia Jessie, Jessica Madsen, Golda Rosheuvel, Hugh Sachs, Adjoa Andoh, Daniel Francis, Hannah Dodd, Harriet Cains, Bessie Carter, Polly Walker, Martins Imhangbe and Emma Naomi round out the cast.

Bridgerton‘s third season will be released in two parts. Part 1 premieres May 13, while Part 2 hits Netflix on June 13.
