"Even wallflowers can bloom," the trailer declares, as best friends Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington make a pact to find her a husband

Dear Reader, Bridgerton season 3 is bringing the heat.

The first trailer for the Netflix show's upcoming return is here, giving a glimpse at the next dating season, possible diamond and new love story. This time, the focus is on Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). “I cannot live at home any longer,” she says in the trailer. “I must take a husband.”

Viewers have long noticed the character’s crush on friend Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), who, in season 2, admitted to his friends he’d never court her. There may be a change in the tides as season 3 airs … or, a change in their friendship, at the very least.

“If a husband is what you seek, let me help you,” Colin tells his long-time friend. “Are we not friends?”

With a new plan to help Penelope attract her perfect partner, the duo may spend more time together than ever before. And their master plan may actually lead to romance for Penelope — far away from Colin.

The trailer shows Penelope bonding with Lord Debling over a dance. “You look especially beautiful tonight, Miss Featherington,” he says as he spins her. From the wall on looks Colin, with a face of concern. For what? Viewers will have to wait and see.

Colin seeks advice from his mother, saying, “Do you believe the best foundation for love is friendship?”

The season's tagline: “Even a wallflower can bloom.”

It all ends with Colin seemingly seeking out Penelope in the middle of the night, their faces surrounded by torches.

While friendship could blossom into something more, there’s much to be considered. Penelope’s ex-best friend seems to have moved on to other friendships — and she may not be welcoming of Penelope dating her brother, should the pair make an official move. Not to mention, Penelope’s secret moonlighting as the ton’s gossip columnist Lady Whistledown could halt her chances with any suitor should they learn the writer’s true identity.
