Bride ‘ruins’ her smile by getting Botox injections right before her wedding: ‘I cannot stop crying’

A woman says that getting Botox injections a month out from her wedding day “ruined” her smile — and now her story is serving as a cautionary tale to brides — and Botox fans — everywhere.

TikToker Lauren Gambler (@lgambler) gained over 1 million collective views and 37,000 likes when she took to the app to share the details of her wedding fail with the world.

This isn’t the first time a wedding day mishap has gone viral on the app. Recently a bride shared what happens when you forget to practice your “soft smile” for wedding photos, while one “devastated” bride filmed the moment she caught a restaurant serving her wedding cake to another party.

Gambler’s video is teaching brides-to-be an important lesson: When it comes to big life events — especially highly photographed ones — be sure to carefully plan your cosmetic procedures.

Though it was Gambler’s Botox side effects that most recently went viral, her wedding day woes actually began with a wedding dress debacle — in a video that gained over 1 million views.

However, in a follow-up video, Gambler later told viewers, “Screw the dress situation. Look at my smile.”

As she explains, one month out from her wedding day, she got Botox injections in her chin. But because some of the injection seeped into her muscle, her smile was lopsided. To “even it out,” her aesthetician recommended another injection on the other side as well.

That’s when her smile took on a new shape, one she apparently was not very happy about.

“There’s nothing I can do because this part is not reversible,” she says at the end of the video.

In another follow-up, Gambler’s mood was decidedly darker. “This is just me having a meltdown,” she says to viewers, her eyes red and full of tears.

“I get married tomorrow, and the smile,” she trails off, then flashes her Botox-induced smile. “I try to make jokes out of it and play it off or whatever. I don’t think it’s funny anymore. I cannot stop crying.”

She goes on to say that she “knows this is silly,” and that there are “real-world problems out there” — “but I’m just upset, OK?”

Despite her aesthetician attempting to cheer her up with positive affirmations, Gambler’s video ends in more tears and another attempt at smiling. “I’m really trying, guys. I’m really trying.”

‘My injector didn’t tell me chin Botox would do this’

Hundreds of TikTokers took to the comment section to share their own Botox mishaps with the emotional bride.

“This happened to me before my wedding but it seeped into my eyelid so i had a droopy eye for my wedding🥲” commented @allie.helman.

“My crows feet botox affected my smile 5 months before my wedding. It’s finally wearing off and I won’t be getting anything before the wedding 😬” wrote @taylorintexas.

“The exact same thing happened to me and my smile when I got chin Botox. I hate to share this, but it took 10 months for mine to fully wear off 😭😭” commented @user3884346116241.

“This happened to me with my chin. My injector didn’t tell me chin Botox would do this. I’m so sorry, but you still look beautiful,” shared @stacey.marie.e.

“I wanted to get my chin done before my wedding too and my lady said absolutely not and now I know why 😂 you’re still going to be beautiful!” wrote @madison_leasure.

‘It is essential to take a cautious and well-planned approach’

In The Know by Yahoo spoke to Liana Sahakyan, a registered nurse and co-founder of Lauréate Aesthetics, to get to the bottom of why this happened to Gambler, and to learn what other brides can do to prevent it from happening on their big day too.

“For brides considering Botox or any cosmetic procedure before their wedding, it is essential to take a cautious and well-planned approach,” Sahakyan explains.

“Pre-wedding advice for brides looking to get Botox includes scheduling the treatment well in advance, preferably several months before the wedding day, to allow for any potential complications to be addressed and to ensure adequate healing time.”

As for what caused Gambler’s particular Botox mishap, Sahakyan says it’s possible that the aesthetician inadvertently affected the function of the mentalis muscle in the chin while injecting Botox.

“The mentalis muscle plays a role in controlling the lower lip’s movement and positioning. When Botox is injected into the chin area, it can cause an imbalance in the muscle’s activity, leading to asymmetry in the lower lip,” she explains.

“To even out the result, the aesthetician injected the other half of the lower lip, but this approach did not rectify the underlying issue and could have exacerbated the asymmetry.”

To prevent such occurrences, Sahakyan says it’s crucial to consult with a qualified and experienced professional — one who “specializes in facial aesthetics and thoroughly understands the anatomy of the face and a clear understanding of the procedure’s details.”
