Brick Alley Pub: From burgers to couscous, surely it offers something for everyone

Out of all the restaurants located in downtown Newport, the Brick Alley Pub might be one of the most classic spots in the city.

Recognizable from down the street by its characteristic yellow and white striped awnings and line out the door, the Brick Alley Pub has one of the broadest menus in Newport. The many pages of its menu highlight the quality and uniqueness of its food. The Brick Alley Pub has some of the freshest calamari you can find, clam chowder so delicious that you could gulp it down in just a few sips, juicy and positively-messy burgers, and even full meals of varying cuisines such as Mediterranean couscous and Italian pizza and flatbreads. As you can see, the Brick Alley Pub is clearly a jack of all trades and a master of all.

Beyond the delicious meals crafted by the Brick Alley Pub, its interior is uniquely decorated with Rhode Island trinkets and quirky items gracing the walls and ceilings. Rhode Island license plates are stacked on the classic pub walls with New England sports memorabilia surrounding it. Beyond this decor, a bicycle hangs from the ceiling, along with Newport Gulls jerseys and New England sports jerseys. Frames with old pictures and newspaper clippings — and even an antique sign for The Newport Daily News, which used to have it's offices in the same building.

While the Brick Alley Pub’s menu is not short of delicious meals, my favorite burger to order at the restaurant is the Bacon Jammy Jam — a patty topped with bacon, bacon jam, and brie cheese. This unique combination makes for a sweet and messy, but not too messy, burger.

Although you may be skeptical about ordering Mediterranean food at a coastal restaurant in Rhode Island, the Brick Alley Pub’s couscous is surprisingly flavorful.
