Brian Tyree Henry Is Ready To Save The World — Again — In ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’
Brian Tyree Henry is back to save the world.
The 41-year-old reprises his role as the conspiracy theorist and Titan Truth podcaster, Bernie Hayes, in the new Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire movie. The character was first introduced in the 2021 film Godzilla vs. Kong.
“I’m excited for people to see Bernie get his due… he kind of saved the world last time,” shared the acclaimed actor with VIBE at the film’s world premiere in Hollywood, Calif. on Monday night (March 25).
“This one is great because you also get to see him in team mode and down in Hollow Earth with everybody. You also get to see him in such a state of duress.”
He continued to detail, “I think that he’s the voice of the audience, honestly. Whatever I go through, I feel like you guys are going through and Im trying to convey that to you guys through like ‘What am I doing here, why did I go this far?’ Bernie has elevated in a way, he’s filming his documentary. He’s really hoping to get his shine and I hope gets it after this because he really puts his life in danger.”
Dan Stevens, who plays a new character named Trapper, also shared excitement for the film.
“I’m excited to see the team up, we’re all about the collab, we’re bringing them together, it’s all about the love,” explained the 41-year-old actor. “Trapper’s a great one to have along for the ride. He’s got a very robust sense of wider but he’s pretty unphased by all things freaky in Hollow Earth. I’m very excited for audiences to meet him.”
Although the film finds the two monsters teaming up to defeat a larger threat, some behind the scenes still have a favorite titan. Speaking with BigXthaPlug and Ro$ama, the Texas rappers behind the Godzilla x Kong signature song “Beast Mode,” both revealed their bias towards one of the sci-fi giants when creating their bass-filled track.
“It took us out of our comfort zone, but we’re musicians,” detailed BigXthaPlug of making music for a family-friendly movie soundtrack.
“It came easy after I got the first line,” added Ro$ama.
BigXthaPlug continued to explain, “I’ve always preferred King Kong over Godzilla…he’s King Kong,” with his collaborator’s agreement.
