Brian Austin Green says Beverly Hills, 90210 cast celebrated Luke Perry's life at private gathering
Brian Austin Green is remembering his former Beverly Hills 90210 costar Luke Perry, who died on March 4 after suffering a massive stroke in his Los Angeles home at the age of 52.
Green released a new episode of his podcast …with Brian Austin Green, and dedicated the entire installment to Perry (and the previously announced 90210 reboot). “Luke was a really f—ing cool guy,” Green said in the podcast. “Luke was one of those people that nobody had a bad story about. He was just a great guy. And he was Luke no matter where you saw him, no matter when you saw him, no matter what he was going through. He was a rock. I’m extremely lucky to have had him in my life. He really is a great guy and he’ll be missed.”
According to Green, a group of former Beverly Hills castmates met up at Gabrielle Carteris’ home following Perry’s death, people Green said he hadn’t seen in at least 18 years. “It was very mixed emotions because you were happy to see everybody … but what a horrible reason to have to see everybody again,” Green said.
Green said he called Perry prior to his death to discuss the Beverly Hills reboot, which was announced in February. The limited series stars Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Tori Spelling, and Green. “I called him when we were talking about the reboot because he knew early on that he was doing Riverdale and so he couldn’t do the reboot, which was a shame but we thought, if the reboot’s doing really well he can always come back and he can do a couple episodes, we’ll figure it out,” Green said. “Same thing with Shannen [Doherty]. It’s a shame now that that’s not a possibility. That’s so low on the totem pole but it’s a shame for fans that they don’t get that send-off of Dylan McKay like they want.”
Green also revealed that he texted Perry after he died. “I texted him after he had passed, knowing obviously that he can’t text me back, but on some level hoping that he would text me back or that he was out there somewhere,” Green said. “And I know he is. I know he’s looking down and I know he’s smiling.”
Green added that, “Knowing Luke, he is not one that wants us to mourn him. He wants us to celebrate him.”
