Milwaukee Brewers star left fielder Christian Yelich will take a night off from playing ball to host a charity concert in Milwaukee to benefit veterans.

Yelich and his family are hosting the Home Plate Charity Concert at the Pabst Theater July 25, featuring country star Scotty McCreery — who won "American Idol" in 2011 after auditioning at the Milwaukee Art Museum — and comedian (and recently announced Wisconsin State Fair headliner) Charlie Berens, an Elm Grove native.

Other noted Wisconsin names participating in the event include Milwaukee Bucks entertainer DJ Shawna and Egg & Flour Pasta Bar owner/chef Adam Pawlak, who will host a culinary experience for VIP ticketholders.

Beneficiaries of the concert include veterans-supporting organization Team Red, White & Blue; the Brewers Community Foundation and VISIT Milwaukee.

In a statement, Yelich emphasized he wanted to support veterans in part because his brother Cameron is a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran.

“This event is particularly special to us, not just for what it means to Milwaukee but also for the opportunity it presents to give back to those who've served our country, like my brother,” Yelich said in the statement. “Our family is committed to supporting Team RWB and military veterans, ensuring their sacrifices are recognized and honored. We are also committed to supporting VISIT Milwaukee and the programs they offer and also continuing to support Brewers Community Foundation. Every donation, every ticket, every sponsorship goes a long way in making a tangible difference in the lives of veterans and our community."

Sponsorships ranging from $15,000 to $100,000 are being accepted, with more information at visitmilwaukee.org/yelich. Tickets for the concert, priced between $75 and $250, will be available at pabsttheater.org and the Pabst Theater box office (144 E. Wells St.) beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, with presales starting at 10 a.m. Thursday.
