Don't look now, but Wisconsin's Northwoods is having a musical moment.

First, KISS brings its End of the Road World Tour to a big crowd in Crandon on Friday night in Forest County, and then Poison frontman Bret Michaels makes a surprise appearance on Labor Day in ... Crivitz?

Michaels shared a post Monday of a visit to see his mom in Marinette County over the holiday weekend.

"I want to thank Wisconsin Bob, my stepdad, for helping me truly surprise Mom," Michaels wrote on Instagram. "The people there were great & so was the lake. I'm surprising everyone next summer — I'm gonna pick a date and we're gonna do a big concert in Crivitz, Wisconsin."

It's unclear if his mom, Marjorie, lives in Crivitz, which is about 50 miles north of Green Bay, or was vacationing or summering there. Michaels occasionally shares photos of her on his social media. His father, Wallace, a veteran of the Korean War, died in 2019.

Perhaps Michaels, who keeps a hectic touring schedule, will have some extra time to unwind up north. The next date on his itinerary is Friday's Fall Ball Parti-Gras concert at Capital Credit Union Park in Ashwaubenon. The multi-act bill also includes Dee Snider of Twisted Sister, original Foreigner lead singer Lou Gramm and former Journey vocalist Steve Augeri. Tickets start at $49 at etix.com.

"Can't wait for the stadium show on September 8 in Green Bay, Wisconsin — one of my favorite cities on the planet," Michaels wrote in the Instagram post.

Michaels, who was born and raised in Pennsylvania, has a soft spot for Green Bay that dates back to 1988 when Poison launched its first headlining tour from Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena. The band spent several days in the city as it rehearsed at the venue, and the video for its smash "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" was shot in the building. Poison returned twice more in the early '90s to rehearse for and launch tours from the building. Fittingly, Michaels was the last act to play the arena before it was torn down in 2019 to make way for Resch Expo.

He's played a long list of Green Bay-area venues, either solo or with Poison, over the decades, including Resch Center, Oneida Casino, EPIC Event Center and Green Bay Distillery.

Ahead of Friday's concert at Capital Credit Union Park, Michaels talked to the Green Bay Press-Gazette about the magic he has with Green Bay, his positive energy, Poison's next tour, sketching out his tours old-school with pen and paper and how his motto of "adapt and adjust" has served him well.
