Bret Michaels has been through a lot in recent years, but one constant has been his daughters, Raine Elizabeth Michaels and Jorja Bleu Michaels.

In 2010, the Poison musician suffered a brain hemorrhage that could have killed him. His doctor said at the time that Bret was one of “10 to 20 percent” of people who experienced the type of hemorrhage he did, but were expected to make a full recovery. The following year, Bret again went through a tough time medically when he had to have surgery to repair a hole in his heart.

Through his health challenges, Bret said that it was his daughters who kept him fighting. In 2011, he was interviewed by Raine and Jorja — who were then 11 and 6, respectively — for Redbook magazine.

When asked by Raine how his health scare affected him, he responded, “When the doctors said chances were slim that things would turn out good for me, all I could think about was you and Jorja and your mom, and not getting to see you girls get married — that made me fight. You two saved my life spiritually.” He added, jokingly, “Plus, I didn't want your mom to meet a better-looking new dad!”

Bret and his longtime partner, Kristi Lynn Gibson, welcomed Raine and Jorja in 2000 and 2005, respectively. Both parents also post frequently about being proud of their daughters.

From sweet quotes from their famous father to the paths they’re forging on their own, here’s everything to know about Bret Michaels’ daughters, Raine and Jorja.

Bret and Gibson welcomed their first child, Raine Elizabeth Michaels, on May 20, 2000, in Los Angeles, as reported by MTV. Bret said in a statement, per the outlet: “Her birth was amazing. Being in the room when Raine was born was as close as I'll get to heaven without dying. She has beautiful blue eyes, big fat pouty lips, and lots of big hair. A chip off the old block."

In an interview with Redbook, Bret spoke about having his girls on tour with him and shared that Raine loved staying up late. “I'll wake up and you'll be sitting with Rat [the bus driver] talking about life and watching the world go by. You're the real rock star in the family!” he told his then-11-year-old.

But Raine didn’t follow in her father’s rockstar footsteps, instead, she’s a model and is signed with Ford Models. In 2018, Raine walked in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit runway show after she auditioned as part of the magazine’s Swim Search. Then, in 2019, she appeared in the magazine’s swimsuit issue as one of the six finalists from the search.

“My oldest daughter Raine works hard and is a kind, humble soul," Bret told PEOPLE at the time. "She was really excited to be involved with Sports Illustrated. She is at college studying sports journalism and broadcasting. Raine knows all the girls worked hard to get there and is grateful to be in the top six!"

More recently, Bret has shared social media posts revealing that his eldest daughter has been working as a sports reporter, including appearing on ESPN+.

In early February he shared an image on Instagram of a television screen showing Raine holding a microphone while conducting an interview. "Raine Michaels, right in the action with the San Diego Seals live on ESPN+," he wrote, in part, in the caption.

According to her LinkedIn page, Raine worked as a sports reporter for National Lacrosse League (NLL) team the San Diego Seals in 2023, and she shared several posts on her Instagram showing her in the role over the year,

It appears she may even still be reporting for the Seals, as along with Bret's recent post, her Instagram account features a microphone icon next to the team's own Instagram handle.

Raine also updates followers about her life and career on her Instagram, and has a separate account for sharing about one of her other major interests, reading romance novels, though it hasn't been updated since 2022.

Bret and Gibson welcomed their second daughter, Jorja Bleu Michaels, on May 5, 2005. Speaking about his daughters’ names with PEOPLE in 2010, Michaels said he had to “give full credit to their mom.” He added of Jorja’s middle name, Bleu, “We threw her a little French in there. A little culture.”

Jorja was a big fan of her dad as a little one. She told PEOPLE herself at 4 years old: “Dad is a rock star! He is my hero.”

Bret’s younger daughter shares his passion for music. In an interview with In Kansas City in 2019, he shared, “My youngest daughter Jorja Bleu goes to a school for arts and music and she wrote the new single ‘Unbroken’ with me. It was an incredible bonding experience.”

“Unbroken” is about keeping positive even during tough times. When it came to her contribution, Bret told Taste of Country that Jorja was inspired by things she was facing as a young teenager. “Just adjusting to life ... growing pains. We all go through 'em,” he told the outlet. He also called his daughter an “amazing songwriter.”

Bret has written songs inspired by both of his daughters. He released “Raine” in 2003 and “Jorja Bleu” in 2017. Lyrics to the song for Jorja include, “She said, ‘What if I fall?’ And I said, ‘What if you fly? You’re never gonna know, girl, unless you reach for the sky.’ ”

Like her older sister, Jorja also shares her life on social media, including joining her father on tour, and more recently launched her own hair and beauty account, J Bleu Hair, late last year, where she revealed that she has begun attending hair school in Los Angeles.

"Hi everyone ! 🫶🏼 Welcome to my hair and beauty account💄🧖🏼‍♀️💇🏼‍♀️ @hairbyjbleu ! (I will be posting tips and recommendations in my highlights)," she wrote in the caption of the account's first post in December 2023, adding. "Super excited to announce I will be attending a private hair school in LA! I am Starting in January and finishing in December of 2024 :)"

Jorja continued, "I will be specializing in color, cut, and extensions!! I am SO excited for what the future holds. 🔮✨🥂I can’t wait to have some of you as my future clients! Stay tuned! Much love, - Jorja Bleu 💙🦋."
