Brent Rivera-Nathan Kress Comedy ‘Alexander IRL’ to Get December Release on YouTube Red

YouTube Red has set a Dec. 14 release date for the teen comedy “Alexander IRL,” toplined by social media stars Brent Rivera and Nathan Kress, Variety has learned exclusively.

Rivera, who has more than 25 million social media followers, makes his feature film debut in a movie about two brothers who have nothing in common, but need to work together when their parents leave them home alone for a week. The ensemble cast features Kress (“iCarly”), Marcus Scribner (“Black-ish”), and Ryan Newman (“Zeke and Luther”).

Kress’ character is the older brother who overhears his boss speaking with General Electric about an innovation competition. He dreams of becoming the next Mark Zuckerberg so he agrees to help throw a party in exchange for help with an app.

The film is directed by K. Asher Levin (“Cougars Inc.”), and is produced by Rivera, Levin, and Rob Fishman, who co-founded Niche, the marketing company acquired last year by Twitter.

“We are thrilled that YouTube Red Originals shares our vision of bringing back the teen films that our generation grew up on,” Levin said. “‘Alexander IRL’ is filled with emerging talent, relatable characters, and a pop sensibility that truly speaks to today’s teenagers.”

The cast includes Sarah Gilman (“I Didn’t Do It”), Bo Mitchell (“Eastbound and Down”), YouTube star Brennen Taylor, Mikaela Hoover (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), Ryan Pinkston (“Punk’d”), Jason Nash, and Simon Rex.

YouTube Red is a paid membership service with enhanced access to YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube Gaming. Members also get exclusive access to original series and movies.
