In honor of the Breaking Bad finale’s 10th anniversary (on Sept. 29), TVLine is celebrating the series’ real hero: Skyler White.
Anna Gunn’s Skyler received plenty of criticism during the AMC drama’s five-season run. Viewers on Reddit have called her “cold, manipulative, self-serving controlling and passive aggressive,” an “irritating person” and “annoying.” And according to her son Flynn (aka Walt Jr.), Skyler was “such a b–tch!” But did she deserve such harsh disapproval?

No! The woman was a hero! Why, you ask? Well, while Walt was pretending to protect his family, Skyler was the only one really looking out for her children, as well as Hank and Marie. Despite not knowing the full truth of Walt’s side-hustle-turned-main-hustle for most of the series, she always made the best decisions with the information she had. Plus, in the end, she stood up to Heisenberg himself — how heroic!
And for those who want to push back, saying, “But Skyler had an affair!” We say: Reach for some higher-hanging fruit. The woman’s marriage ended the moment Walt started cooking. Shouldn’t she be applauded for finding a sliver of happiness as Walt sucked the life out of her?
