Breakfast, brunch and lunch spot Hudson Café announces third location in Troy

The owners of the popular Hudson Café are planning another location to open later this year, according to an Instagram post. Big Beaver and Crooks Road in Troy is the site of the new establishment, the post says.

The owners say they’ve teamed again with Birmingham-based Windy City Construction while Olon Interior in St. Clair Shores will handle the interior design. Both were behind Hudson Cafe's new Northville location and the recent remodel of its Detroit location on Woodward.

The post had hundreds of likes and plenty of comments congratulating the owners.

"We cannot wait to be part of the community and see everyone at our new location," the Instagram post says. "We will be located at Big Beaver and Crooks, just off I-75 and near Somerset Mall and some amazing restaurants, hotels, businesses, and people. The new location in Troy will be open later this year. Stay tuned for more details!"

Troy will be the third location for Hudson Cafe. Owner Tom Teknos, reached by phone Thursday afternoon, said the new location is in the planning stages with construction expected to start in mid-late August.

“The plan is to open prior to Thanksgiving,” he said.

Teknos named Cortney Bogorad and Elyse Elwood as his business partners for the Troy location.

Bogorad has been with Hudson Café since 2011 when the Detroit location first opened. “She stuck by my side through thick and then,” Teknos said. “She’s experienced as a manager as well as a barista to bartender. She understands everything and is extremely knowledgeable.”

Elwood, Teknos said, is a family friend who has been in the restaurant business for 30 years. More recently Elwood managed Ruth’s Chris in Troy.

The menu will be identical to the Detroit and Northville locations, Teknos said.

In Troy, the space spans 3,600 square feet and is on the north side of Big Beaver. There will be two separate bars, one with 14 seats and one with seven seats, Teknos said. The overall space will accommodate nearly 90 guests, and an outdoor patio will face Big Beaver.

Teknos closed the original Hudson Cafe on Woodward in late January for a complete remodel. It included adding a bar, updating the kitchen, remodeling the dining room and adding more seating.

“Detroit has always been a destination location,” Teknos said. “Troy will capture those from Royal Oak, Rochester and Birmingham.”

Hudson Cafe's location in Northville is a former Applebee's in a shopping center at Haggerty and 6 Mile roads. It includes a banquet room for private parties, baby showers and wedding showers.
