Brandywine bounces Constantine

Niles-Brandywine beat Constantine 16-5 in prep baseball action on Wednesday evening. The second game was called due to darkness, but saw the Bobcats leading 13-0 in the top of the fifth inning.

Brandywine led 14-0 entering the fifth inning of the opening game. Then, Constantine scored five times in the home half of the inning to continue the game. Brandywine answered with two more runs in the sixth to install the run rule.

Constantine collected five hits in the game.

Alex Brossman hit a pair of singles, he also drove in two runs in that fifth inning. Both Cooper Juday and Lukas Hagenbuch had a run-scoring single in the fifth inning as well.

Dom Jacobs also had a single in the game.

Gaven Lewis, Dathan Smith, Logan Kee, Jack Larink and Brenden Presswood all saw time on the mound for the Falcons. They struck out four combined hitters.

Hartford, WP split

The Hartford and White Pigeon baseball teams split a pair of games on Wednesday.

Hartford won the first game, 13-0. White Pigeon did not register a hit in this one.

The Chiefs did rebound to win the second game, 14-9.

Dace Kochel, Clayton Grandstaff, Estaban Castro and Collin Mettler each had a base hit in the game.

Sturgis, Otsego split

The Sturgis and Otsego baseball teams split a pair of games on Wednesday evening.

"Our pitching continues to keep us in games," Sturgis coach Drew Rutenbar said. "When we're able to string together some hits like we did in Game 2, we should be able to compete with most teams in our conference."

Otsego won the first game, 3-1.

Sturgis scored its run in the second inning on an RBI from J Lambright, allowing Hunter Kosmerick to cross the plate. Ian Smith, Zachary Green and Gavyn Moore each had a hit in the game.

Gibson Cary tossed all six innings, striking out nine.

Sturgis rebounded to win the second game, 6-3. Cary led the offense in this one with three base hits, including a double and one RBI.

Green, Smith and Taner Patrick each had two hits in the contest. Moore clubbed a single, triple and drove in two runs. Gavin PeDue was credited with an RBI.

Kosmerick picked up the win, striking out eight over five innings of work. Patrick also tossed two innings, striking out two.
