Brandy to debut on Broadway as Roxie Hart in 'Chicago'
Grammy-winner Brandy is headed to Broadway this spring as she becomes the next Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago, producers announced Tuesday.
The singer, born Brandy Norwood, will be part of the show for an eight-week run at the Ambassador Theatre beginning April 28. The musical was happy to announce her casting via Instagram.

She will be playing the role of the murderous housewife Roxie Hart in the 1920s-set musical. The revival of the musical, which opened in 1996, won six Tony Awards in 1997, including best musical revival, in addition to the Grammy Award for best musical theater album.
Brandy’s career began in the early ’90s, with the singer becoming famous for hits like “I Wanna Be Down” and “What About Us?” as well as her sitcom Moesha. She also portrayed Disney’s first black princess in the 1997 TV movie Cinderella. She currently stars on BET’s The Game.
The singer will be one of the only African-American women to play Roxie in the longest-running American musical on Broadway, the others being Robin Givens in 2006 and Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams in 2010.
