Based on Weber’s bestselling crime drama book series, which wrapped its fourth season in October 2022, The Family Business follows the Duncans, an upstanding, tight-knit family led by L.C. Duncan (Ernie Hudson) that by day owns and operates an exotic car dealership in New York. By night, their business activities are more illicit in nature.

In the spinoff, when the New Orleans side of the Duncan family gets caught in a vicious turf war with corrupt politicians, dirty land developers, and ruthless crime bosses all vying for the family’s underground casino and night club business, they call on their relatives from New York to help wield their own brand of justice.

Big Shirley Duncan, owner of popular New Orleans club Midnight Blues, and her son Marquis (Jackson), get dragged into a brutal power struggle between the most dangerous people in the city on both sides of the law, all wanting a piece of their business and land for secret malicious reasons.

Fearing that her family may lose control of The Blues, Big Shirley sends Marquis to New York to see her brother-in-law, crime boss LC Duncan, who in turn enlists his nephew, Bounty Hunter Curts Duncan, and his highly trained niece, Lauryn Duncan, to help add some muscle and security to their family’s business.

Jackson, who did not appear on the original series, is the only actor set for the spinoff so far, with other castings still being finalized. They could include Ben Stephens and Nayirah Teshali who played Curtis and Lauryn on The Family Business. Hudson will not appear in the offshoot.

Weber, ND Brown, and Trey Haley executive produce for Tri Destined Studios.

Jackson will next be seen alongside Abbie Cornish, Jack Huston and Jamie Chung in upcoming indie feature I’m Beginning To See The Light. He has appeared in such tentpole movies as the Percy Jackson franchise, Fast & Furious and Tooth Fairy. In TV, Jackson was a lead opposite Craig Robinson in Mr. Robinson and he recurred on Netflix’s BoJack Horseman and Hulu’s Deadbeat. Jackson is repped by Buchwald and Zero Gravity.
