Alexa says she worried about how her mom, Carissa’s, full-time vaping habit is affecting her health. Carissa says she’s seen no side effects, so she’s not worried. Dr. Phil asks Dr. Daniel Amen, psychiatrist, founder of the Amen Clinics, and author of Your Brain is Always Listening, to explain to Carissa how her vaping addiction may affect her brain. “You have reward centers or pleasure centers in your brain, and they respond to this neurotransmitter called dopamine,” Dr. Amen says. “If you put too much dopamine on them, you wear them out. So over time, you need more and more to begin to feel anything at all. Nicotine releases dopamine a lot.” Hear more from Dr. Amen, including details about his new book, in the video above. This episode, "'I’m Addicted to Vaping!'," airs Friday. Check local listings to see where you can tune in. TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Need Dr. Phil to get real with someone?
