In our continuing effort to keep you apprised of the undergarments celebrities are wearing — or not wearing — in public, Bradley Cooper just admitted he went commando to hang with President Obama. Even better? He made the admission to the first lady.

Cooper, who has been named Sexiest Man Alive and shares a bed with supermodel Irina Shayk (not bad), made a surprise appearance on Tuesday’s Ellen DeGeneres Show, which boasted Michelle Obama as co-host. During a bit about the women trying to take a selfie and failing, the Oscar-nominated actor magically appeared and snapped the pic — as he did so masterfully when Ellen hosted the Oscars in 2014.

However, things went a little off the rails after that. Cooper, 41, sat down and proceeded to tell a story about going to a 2014 state dinner at the White House and opting not to wear underwear — because when you get two minutes with one of the most intelligent, cultured, classy, and powerful women in the world, that’s the perfect story to tell.

“I had just done American Sniper and I only had one tuxedo and it didn’t fit,” Cooper recalled. “I was so nervous it would rip, so I decided at the last minute to 86 the underwear.”

But Obama proved yet again how cool she is by going with it. When Ellen poked fun at Bradley’s style decision (“Because if it should rip, it’s much better to not have underwear on”), Obama quipped, “For us! It’s good for us. Right, ladies?” The audience cheered wildly.

Cooper previously described his pants that night as “crazy-town tight.” The dinner, which he attended with ex-girlfriend Suki Waterhouse (who was cropped out of the photo shown on Ellen — sorry, Suki!) honored French President François Hollande, but the actor, who bulked up to play controversial war veteran Chris Kyle, found himself greeting people while staying seated. “I couldn’t stand up, really. … And you have to walk up the stairs, and it was a nightmare. But I made it through.”

Let’s hope he’s upgraded his tux situation in the last two years.
