Carey Mulligan and Bradley Cooper are opening up about their "dramatic" first meeting.

Appearing on Friday’s episode of The Graham Norton Show, Cooper, 49, said “Carey was in a one-woman show, and I went backstage to meet her and realized something was not right and I insisted on taking her to the emergency room.”

“During the show, a bit of set hit me on the head," Mulligan explained. "I carried on but when it was over, I started crying and thought I was a goner."

"I was sobbing on the floor when Bradley turned up and, realizing I wasn’t OK, he took me to hospital. You can imagine how delighted the nurse was!”

Mulligan plays the role of Felicia Montealegre alongside Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein in the Netflix romance musical Maestro, which tells the story of the American conductor’s relationship with the Costa Rica-born actress.

Speaking to Norton on Friday, Mulligan also revealed she suffered another unusual medical moment during filming when she fell ill and doctors didn't believe she was pregnant because of the heavy prosthetics she was wearing.

“I was quite ill on set and a doctor was called to give me antibiotics,” the star explained. “When I told him I was 12 weeks pregnant he was not at all convinced.”

She then realized she was “still made up to look 57 years old.”

“I couldn’t wait to tell the make-up artists how good they were,” added Mulligan, who has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 2024 Academy Awards for her performance in the movie.

Cooper, who is nominated for Best Actor, also revealed how prosthetics were done to make him “age from 24 to 67 during the film” — and had a dramatic effect on how the movie was made.

“The makeup was amazing,” he said about making the movie. “It was also interesting that on young Lenny filming days I was popping all over the set and when I was the older Lenny, we had much slower days.”
