They say time heals all wounds, but it would appear at least one recent Hollywood heartbreak may need a few more months in recovery. Per Us Weekly, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s ex-fiancé Christian Carino avoided each other at Monday’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood premiere, narrowly escaping what could have been a rather awkward run-in.

In case you somehow missed the backstory, Cooper and Gaga naturally became close while filming 2018’s award-winning musical remake, A Star Is Born. In the film (which Cooper directed), Cooper and Gaga star as Jackson and Ally Maine, in-love musicians. Fans began stanning the pair as soon as the film was released, but the public obsession over the idea of Cooper and Gaga together in real life piqued during award show season (who can forget about that steamy duet at the 2019 Oscars?!). Along the way, Gaga and Carino called off their engagement, prompting speculation that her relationship with Cooper was to blame.

Bearing that history in mind, fast forward to Monday night’s movie premiere. According to Us Weekly, the men took certain precautions to circumvent having to see each other. Carino came early. Cooper, when he did arrive, laid low in a hat and sunglasses. He skipped the red carpet. They sat in different areas of the theater, and, after the premiere, Carino continued on to the afterparty at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, while Cooper reportedly skipped it.

It is entirely possible, of course, that the fact Cooper and Carino didn’t run into each other is simply happenstance. It sounds as though Cooper may have been trying to avoid mingling too much with anyone, for what it’s worth. However, there’s no denying that the run-in would likely have been awkward given how much chatter remains about the possibility of a Cooper-Gaga connection.

Back in June, shortly after Cooper and his girlfriend of four years, Irina Shayk, called it quits, a source for Us Weekly came forward to claim that — even if Cooper and Gaga never had any feelings for one another — the film itself is partially to blame for the demise of Cooper’s relationship. “The movie had a major impact on Bradley and Irina’s relationship,” said the source. “Even though there was nothing romantic between Bradley and Gaga, the noise was difficult for Irina to deal with.”

Could Carino have experienced the same struggle? It’s possible. Regardless, Cooper and Carino may not have had anything in common outside of Gaga, and that alone could have made for at least one of two uncomfortable conversational gaps had they bumped into each other at the movie premiere.
