Bradley Cooper Was 'Embarrassed' by Oscars Best Director Snub: 'I Felt I Hadn't Done My Job'
Bradley Cooper was left feeling out when he was snubbed for a best director Oscar nomination.
The 44-year-old actor opened up about being left out on Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations from Times Square on Tuesday in New York City, saying the moment was hard to move past.
“I was embarrassed. I was at a coffee shop in New York City and looked down at my phone and Nicole [Caruso, his publicist] has told me congratulations and said what we had been nominated for,” Cooper recalled. “They didn’t even give me the bad news.”
He added, “I was embarrassed because I felt I hadn’t done my job.”
A Star Is Born is Cooper’s directorial debut which follows up and coming singer Ally (Lady Gaga) as veteran performer Jackson Maine (Cooper) helps launch her career.
Cooper also shared Lady Gaga‘s best advice to him when it came to singing in the film.
“She said, ‘Don’t try to sing it,'” he shared. “It was the best direction. It’s like acting, I’m actually talking.”
Cooper scored three Oscar nominations for A Star Is Born, including best actor, best picture and best adapted screenplay alongside Eric Roth and Will Fetters.

The father of one was accompanied at Winfrey’s event by girlfriend and model Irina Shayk. Other guests included Beto O’Rourke, Melinda Gates, Michael B. Jordan and Lisa Borders.
Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations from Times Square TV special will air on Feb. 16 at 8pm on OWN. Additionally, the conversations will be available on “Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations” podcast starting with Cooper’s episode on February 12 and Jordan’s on February 13, followed by O’ Rourke’s episode on February 27 and Borders’ episode on March 6.
