Brad Falchuk Gives a Sweet Reason for Waiting a Full Year to Live With Wife Gwyneth Paltrow

It’s been almost a year since they tied the knot, but after lots of questions and chatter about why Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk have waited to move in together, Falchuk has opened up with new details. According to Falchuk, the big cohabitation will kick off in September — meaning effectively, a full year of marriage will have passed before this unconventional husband and wife live under the same roof full-time. So what gives?

Speaking with WSJ Magazine in a new interview, Falchuk explained that the duo’s decision to hold off on living together basically boiled down to one major factor: their kids. Paltrow shares daughter Apple, 15, and son Moses, 13, with her ex-husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. Falchuk shares daughter Isabella and son Brody with ex-wife Suzanne Falchuk. So, they wanted to ensure they held space for everyone to adjust in their own time. “I’m moving in September. We’ve just done it slowly,” Falchuk said, elaborating, “Divorce is terrible, even when it’s the right thing to do. And it’s really hard on kids. Come September, we’re all gonna Brady Bunch it up, and it’ll be great.”

When that time does finally come, Falchuk insists it will look a lot like any other blended family, saying, “There’s a media version of her and me, but we’re just home cooking dinner. Or she’s just cooking me breakfast. That’s all. We could not be a more normal couple.”

Paltrow first revealed in Dec. 2019 that she and Falchuk hadn’t been living together full-time since getting hitched three months prior. At the time, she told WSJ Magazine they hadn’t yet “merged households” since they were figuring out the logistics. “We are still doing it in our own way,” she said. “With teenage kids, you’ve got to tread lightly. It’s pretty intense, the teenage thing.”

In June 2019, more details emerged about the unique arrangement. Paltrow noted that she and Falchuk share a bed four nights a week, with Falchuk spending the remaining three at his own house (which is near Paltrow’s home). Paltrow said that the arrangement helped the couple maintain a perfect “polarity” and keep their relationship “fresh.”

Naturally, the internet has had a lot to say about Falchuk and Paltrow’s living situation. But, as Falchuk told WSJ, the noise doesn’t bother them. “At the end of the day, we’re getting into bed together… and nothing from the outside world or anybody’s opinion means anything.”
