Rihanna will receive a special honor at the "2013 American Music Awards."
The "Diamonds" singer will be presented the program's first-ever Icon Award.
Producer Larry Klein explained why the Barbados beauty would receive the recognition. "The first-ever Icon Award was created to honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level," he said. "Rihanna's iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and best-selling artists of all time."
Rihanna's influence is undeniable. The pop star, who will also perform at the AMAs, is the best-selling digital artist of all time, selling more than 50 million albums and 180 million digital tracks worldwide.
Rihanna has released seven albums, earned 12 No. 1 singles and won six Grammy Awards. She also has 80 million Facebook followers, making her the top artist on the social media platform.
Rihanna will join other previously announced AMAs performers, Luke Bryan, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Ke$ha, Kendrick Lamar, Imagine Dragons, Jennifer Lopez, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction, Katy Perry, TLC and host Pitbull.
The pre-show co-hosted by Lance Bass, Jordin Sparks and others will be live streamed on Yahoo.com, and will also include performances from Jesse McCartney, Fifth Harmony, Kurt Hugo Schneider, Jabbawockeez and Aloe Blacc.
