Netflix's adaptation of Jenny Han's novel To All the Boys I've Loved Before was so successful that there was a resulting boom in sales of Yakult. After all, if Peter Kavinsky drinks the "Korean yoghurt smoothie" it must be delicious.

Given the success of the film, and not just for yoghurt sales, it was no surprise that work on a sequel began as part of the streaming giant's production deal with studio Paramount. It was Netflix's most re-watched movie of 2018, after all.

Filming began in March 2019, and the title was revealed to be To All the Boys: PS I Still Love You. No surprise there, since the title of Jenny Han's sequel is PS I Still Love You.

Though Susan Johnson directed the breakthrough first film she won't return for the sequel. Instead, To All the Boys I've Loved Before's Director of Photography Michael Fimognari will direct. Johnson will executive produce the movie instead.

But what else do you need to know about the sequel to To All the Boys I've Loved Before?

To All the Boys 2 trailer: Watch it here!

Netflix officially offered up a first look at the sequel on December 19 and you can watch it below.

The reaction online to the trailer was, as you might expect, overwhelmingly positive. Certainly the news that a third To All The Boys I've Loved Before movie was on its way only added to the excitement.

To All the Boys 2 release date: When can we expect it?

Netflix has confirmed that To All The Boys: PS I Still Love You will be officially released on February 12, 2020. Not only that, a third movie titled To All The Boys: Always And Forever Lara Jean started filming in August 2019.

While you're waiting for the sequel to arrive, you can rewatch the first movie and read the sequel book, PS I Still Love You, to pass the time.

To All the Boys 2 cast: Who's coming back?

In case you were worried, it was revealed that Lana Condor and Noah Centineo would of course be back as Lara Jean Song Covey and Peter Kavinsky, respectively, on December 19.

The video Netflix posted also confirmed Jordan Fisher (Teen Wolf) would be taking over the role of John Ambrose from Jordan Burtchett. John Ambrose briefly cameoed in the mid-credits scene. In the scene, he showed up at Lara Jean's house because he received one of her love letters. The pair had worked together in Model UN.

Three months after the initial announcement, Netflix confirmed that Janel Parish who plays Margot, Lara Jean's older sister, would reprise her role in the sequel. She'd also be flanked by Anna Cathcart reprising younger sister Kitty and John Corbett as the patriarch of the family Dr Covey.

New to the cast of the sequel is Ross Butler (13 Reasons Why) who will play Trevor Pike, Peter's best friend.

A character from the novel that Jenny Han previously spoke about wanting to include in the film is Stormy. She is a resident in a nursing home, from whom Lara Jean learns many life lessons. And Stormy is rolling in with veteran actor Holland Taylor cast in the role.

Madeline Author was also confirmed as returning to the role of Lara Jean's best friend Christine. It was also revealed that that Sarayu Blue would join the cast in the sequel as Trina Rothschild.

To All the Boys 2 book: What happens?

The movie largely stuck to the plot of the book, so it shouldn't be too much trouble to adapt Han's sequel, PS I Still Love You, as the basis for the movie sequel.

We won't spoil everything that happens, but after Lara Jean gets a job at the advice of Margot, she ends up becoming pen pals with John, while Peter brings his ex-girlfriend to a party and this all leads to relationship drama with the pair.

Centineo hopes that the sequel will "stay true" to the book and Condor has revealed she read the sequel straight after finishing work on the first movie.

"I did read the second book because I was desperate to know what was going on, and it wrecked my world," she reflected. "I was so pissed. I texted Jenny. I was like, 'How could you do this to me?'"

Condor is worried about the potential backlash to Lara Jean's "major new" love triangle in the sequel. "The first one was with Josh and Peter, but in the second movie it's going to be a major new character that's going to challenge Peter quite a bit and fight over me, which is not a bad thing," she said.

There's a third book – Always and Forever, Lara Jean – that the movie series will be adapting too.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before is available to watch now on Netflix.
