Box Office: Ryan Gosling’s ‘The Fall Guy’ Lands $3.15M in Previews

The Ryan Gosling fronted action comedy The Fall Guy has landed $3.15 million over Thursday previews at the domestic box office.

The Univeral title — inspired by the 1980s TV show of the same name starring Lee Majors — is tracking to open in the $30 million to $35 million range. Its net budget is a reported $130 million. The previews included $800k in early access screenings from Wednesday and Thursdays ticket sales from 3,200 locations. On Friday night the film is expands to 4,002 North American theaters.

In the David Leitch-directed movie, Gosling plays stuntman Colt Seavers who after an on-set accident leaves the business and his love interest Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt) behind. When the actor that Colt doubled (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) goes missing, he is called upon to find the star and save the film that also so happened to be the directorial debut of his ex.

The film from Leitch and Kelly McCormick’s 87 North banner, which was also behind Bullet Train and Atomic Blonde, is filled with a litany of stunt sequences, putting the work of the stunt community front and center.

The Lost City — the Sandra Bullock starrer from Paramount that combined romance, comedy, and action — opened in 2022 to $2.5 million in previews, going on to gross $105 million in North America.

Elsewhere, Sony horror movie Tarot earned $715,000 in its opening weekend previews and is tracking to $5 million and $6 million. Tarot, a Screen Gems title, is directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, and follows a group of friends who unleash and evil entity trapped in a deck of cursed Tarot cards.
