Bow Wow Reflects on How Early Fame Made Him Miss Out on Milestones: 'I Really Want What Y'all Have'

The rapper opened up about the high school and college moments he wishes he got to experience

Bow Wow is looking back on his career, and reflecting on how fame caused him to miss out on certain milestones that many others experience while growing up.

Per a screengrab taken by The Shade Room, the 36-year-old rapper posted an Instagram Story about having "never been to prom nor college."

"Just woke up… Thinking to myself like damn… I never been to prom nor college. I wanna pledge so bad I wish I was apart of a fraternity," he wrote. "Yall think Im lucky because of my lifestyle but I really want what yall have."

Discovered in the late '90s by Snoop Dogg, the entertainer — who was born Shad Gregory Moss — released his first album, Beware of Dog, in 2000. Only 13 at the time, he was originally known as Lil Bow Wow.

He then went on to release several more albums and go on to appear in films, like Roll Bounce and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. By then, he dropped the "Lil" moniker and just went by Bow Wow, before releasing his last studio album in 2009.

By 2015, he joined the CBS series, CSI: Cyber, which ran for one season. The now father-of-two also went on to appear in 2021's F9 , compete on season 3 of The Masked Singer and host the BET reality show, After Happily Ever After.

During his career, Bow Wow was interviewed by the Associated Press and asked if he had ever wished he didn't grow up in the spotlight. 

"Not at all. Everything happens for a reason. I’m just one of the chosen few that actually grew up in the limelight and maintained and still be normal," he said at the time. 

Later in the conversation, the rapper added, "I’m pretty much happy with the things that have been handed to me already."

While the comments on Bow Wow's reflective thoughts were met with mixed reactions, drummer and America's Got Talent contestant Timothy Fletcher seemed to sum everyone's feelings up the best. 

"I feel him but everyone has their own path in life, 'comparison robs joy,' be happy with ya lifestyle no matter what," he posted in the comments.
