'The Boondocks' Is Getting A Two-Season Reboot On HBO Max

The animated series "The Boondocks" is about to make a comeback thanks to HBO Max. The WarnerMedia-owned streaming service ordered two seasons of the show, totally 24 episodes.

The new "Boondocks" will launch in fall of 2020 with a 50-minute special episode. Both the new episodes and the 55 original episodes will be available on HBO Max.

The series spanned four seasons over eight years, all of which were aired on Adult Swim. The show premiere in 2005 and quickly gained attention for being unafraid to comment on important social issues.

Aaron McGruder, the show's creator, explained why bringing the show back now is important:

“There’s a unique opportunity to revisit the world of The Boondocks and do it over again for today. It’s crazy how different the times we live in are now – both politically and culturally – more than a decade past the original series and two decades past the original newspaper comic. There’s a lot to say and it should be fun.”

In the reboot, Robert “Granddad” Freeman and his grandsons Huey and Riley are back, but now they live in a suburban Maryland community that is taken over by Uncle Ruckus.
