Book-themed dance, music program April 13-14 at MCCC

MONROE — "One for the Books" is the theme of this year's program by Monroe County Community College's Inside Out Dance Ensemble. The program will be offered at 7:30 p.m. April 13 and at 3 p.m. April 14 in the La-Z-Boy Center, Meyer Theater at MCCC, 1555 S. Raisinville Road.

The show will feature nearly 30 dance performances, live music and poetry readings.

General admission tickets are $12 each and can be purchased in advance at monroeccc.edu/events.

"The selections for this year's performances include musical and dance interpretations of a variety of bestseller and classic books and traditional and recent songs about the art of the written word," MCCC said in a news release.

Dances will include group performances, solos and duets. Kevin R. Daniels will provide guitar and vocal interludes. Three award-winning poems from the MCCC Writing Fellows Poetry Competition will be read; the poets are Aiden Gerlica, Anna Muth and Ashley Atkins.

The IODE is a contemporary dance company founded by Kelli Lajiness in 2010 and is housed at MCCC. Lajiness is the choreographer and director of the company. IODE dancers are: Elisabeth Brockman, Brandon Burns, Grace Drewior, Autumn Hensley, James Marshall , Jillian Marshall, Jake Moskal, Nicole Nangle, Ashley Redfern and Ashley Redfern. Maysie Burns is a member of the Junior Company. IODE Full Member Understudies are Racheal Chatfield, Abigail Johnson and Timothy Johnson. Members of the Destination Tap Collective are: Krista Green, Autumn Hensley, Sydney Nimeth and Kelli Plumb.
