'Bond 25' teaser: See director Cary Joji Fukunaga and stars Daniel Craig, Jeffrey Wright and Lashana Lynch in action on the Caribbean set

Since production commenced in April, the 25th James Bond movie — and the last one starring Daniel Craig as 007 — has been dogged by reports of on-set injuries, damaged sets and alleged hidden cameras. Despite those setbacks, the still-untitled film has been getting plenty of footage in the can as evidenced by a just-released behind-the-scenes video that offers a glimpse of what was happening in front of the cameras during the Jamaica portion of the shoot. (Watch the video above.)

Those hoping to hear some of the sparkling dialogue penned by Fleabag creator, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, will have to wait until the first trailer drops. Instead, this minute-long teaser offers wordless glimpses of Craig and co-stars Jeffrey Wright (returning as Felix Leiter) and Captain Marvel scene-stealer Lashana Lynch (who plays newcomer Nomi) in action. Another major presence is director Cary Joji Fukunaga, who landed the job after Danny Boyle parted ways with Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli last year.

It’s a history-making choice as Fukunaga is the first American director to helm a 007 adventure. It also happens to be his first big-budget studio franchise after breaking into the mainstream with the first season of True Detective back in 2014. That series showcased Fukunaga’s love for intricately-staged long takes, and there are hints here that he’s employing a similar style for Bond 25 as well. One early scene depicts a gun-wielding Craig walking by a window as the camera smoothly dollies alongside him, tracking his movements.

It’s already been disclosed that the first part of Bond 25 will take place in Jamaica, where Bond has been enjoying his time out of the spy game since the events of Spectre. But then Leiter shows up and requests his friend’s assistance in locating a missing scientist — a mission that leads to another globetrotting adventure and an all-new villain, played by recent Oscar-winner, Rami Malek. In the video, we see Leiter meeting up with Bond at one of the rocking Jamaican nightclubs where he’s spending his retirement. The clip ends with Craig paying a visit to Lynch’s fierce-looking Nomi, who clearly doesn’t suffer any fools.

After all the backstage drama, Bond fans are just happy to see that the movie is on its way to becoming a reality. And more than a few have noted the visual connections to the very first big-screen James Bond adventure, Dr. No. To borrow a line from True Detective, time is a flat circle.

Bond 25 blasts into theaters on April 8, 2020.
