ARNAUDVILLE, La. (KLFY)– For the last eight years, daytime television stars with the Bold and Beautiful and the Young and the Restless have come to Louisiana to host fundraising events for the Cancer Support Community. This year, they are also raising money for World War II veterans.

Katherine Kelly Lang plays Brooke in the Bold and the Beautiful, and she said it’s a special moment to celebrate veterans.

“What’s really special is hearing their stories, their personal stories, and what they have to live with day to day from that experience, which is really intense,” Lang said.

Joe Sciarra, a 99-year-old World War II veteran, was honored for his contributions to the United States. Kimberlin Brown, who plays Sheila on both shows, said she has relatives in her family who have risked their lives for the country just like Sciarra.

“To have someone in your family that has done that and survived to tell about it means the world to me,” Brown said.

New Orleans native Christian LeBlanc plays Michael on the Young and the Restless, and he said he had a cancer scare while filming and that it feels amazing to give back with his cast mates alongside him.

“I get to share my home and my hometowns with people who might not have any familiarity with how unique and wonderful and historical this area of the country is,” LeBlanc said.

Eric Braeden, who plays Victor on the Young and Restless said he dealt with colon cancer for a year before becoming cancer-free. He said while the event is to raise money, it is also to raise awareness.

“We are also here to warn people to have early exams, have your colonoscopy, have your breast exams, whenever something is wrong just have it checked out,” Braeden said.

“We have our freedom, and we have our lives because of what they went through and what they dedicated their lives to,” Bryton James who plays Devon on the Young and the Restless said. “I think if anybody has the opportunity to give back and support them, they should.”

Sciarra said veterans have lost their lives fighting for the country they love.

“That’s what we’re fighting for and trying to make money for,” Sciarra said. “It is helping those young men that lost all of those limbs and people have to understand why they lost those limbs. They lost it for our flag, our constitution, and the love of our country.”
