A pair of bodies found inside a car in San Antonio, Texas are believed to be those of a missing pregnant teenager and her boyfriend, police said Tuesday.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday night, San Antonio Chief of Police William McManus described the discovery as a “very perplexing crime scene.”

“There are two people in the car... They are deceased,” McManus added, before confirming that the authorities believe the bodies belong to Savanah Nicole Soto, 18, and her boyfriend Matthew Guerra, reported CBS News.

Soto was reported missing on Friday after she failed to show up for a scheduled appointment to induce her labor. She was last seen leaving her home in Leon Valley around 2 p.m. Friday, reported KENS5 and NBC News

“Detectives right now are looking at this as a possible murder but we don’t know for sure,” McManus told reporters, per NBC News. “Because of the complex crime scene, we can’t say for sure what we have.”

He added that while medical examiners have not yet officially identified the bodies, the authorities "believe that the two individuals are the female who was missing and her boyfriend.”

McManus also confirmed that the bodies were found in a Kia Optima owned by Soto's boyfriend and that they may have been in the vehicle for up to four days.

“She had everything ready for her little boy,” she added about her daughter who had passed her delivery date before she went missing.

“I pray to God every day, every minute, every second of the day we pray to God to bring her home, to bring her home safely because we need her home, to complete our family again,” Soto’s grandmother Rachel Soto told KENS5.
