Bode Miller reveals name of new baby boy, six months after losing 19-month-old daughter

On Tuesday’s Today, Olympic skier Bode Miller revealed the name of his new baby boy, Easton Vaughn Rek Miller. He was born just four months after the heartbreaking loss of his 19-month-old daughter, Emmy, who drowned after falling into a neighbor’s swimming pool during a family visit.

“If there’s one thing that can kind of help to heal and fill that spot in your heart, it’s a baby. And he’s a special one,” Miller told Today host Savannah Guthrie. “Besides the lack of sleep, it’s been a really nice process to be able to go through.”

Easton came in at 9 pounds and 9 ounces, and is named after both NFL star, Von Miller, and the town Bode grew up in: Easton, N.H.

“Von Miller, the football player, he seems like such a unique dude, so I think we kind of pulled off that,” Bode said.

As far as the middle name, Rek, it took Bode some convincing with his wife, Morgan.

“She’s nuts about it not being his name, but I pushed it through,” Bode said.

The couple, who have become vocal advocates for pool and water safety education, share a 3-year-old son, and Bode has a son and a daughter from a previous a relationship. And Emmy still has a strong presence in all of their lives.

“The kids talk about her all the time, which I think is really good but obviously hard too,” Bode said. “But we have to, she’s everywhere in our house. You notice it. You feel the loss, but she’s still part of our family.”
