Bocce ball, truffle and wine dinner on menu at Sal's, Arnone for Italian-American month

Sal's Gelato will host a bocce ball tournament Sunday in Akron's Merriman Valley to celebrate Italian-American Heritage Month.

October is Italian-American Heritage Month, so of course Cafe Arnone of Fairlawn and Sal's Gelato of Akron are celebrating the old country.

Sal's Gelato in the Merriman Valley will host its first Bocce Ball Friends & Family Tournament from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at 1821 Merriman Road, Akron.

Teams of four can enter the tournament by sending an email to joshua@arnonehospitality.com or sign up that day. Guests also can watch and learn how to play the classic Italian game.

Sal's also will offer a 25 percent discount to all for everything in the store, including pastries, gelato, drinks and marketplace items, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Cousins Rocco LaRose and Michael Maghes, owners of both Sal's and Arnone, have cooked up some food and drink specials this month, too.

Cafe Arnone will host a Truffle & Wine Dinner Oct. 27 in the pizzeria and wine room at 2840 W Market St., Fairlawn. Cost is $75, which includes a variety of Italian wines paired with dishes highlighting a truffle element.

Truffle products also will be sold in the cafe's marketplace as well as at the Arnone marketplace at Sal's.

Seasonal drinks, pastries at Cafe Arnone

Cafe Arnone also announced seasonal fall drinks including maple blondie latte, spiced pumpkin latte, s'mores mocha, almond chai and caramel apple butter cold brew. And fall wouldn't be complete without seasonal pastries, including mocha chip biscotti, brown sugar pecan scone, peanut butter brownie bar, maple custard bar, pumpkin cheesecake, chai spiced muffin loaf and pumpkin spiced muffin loaf.

Next week, the restaurant will introduce the new Fig & Prosciutto pizza, featuring crumbled goat cheese, fresh sliced figs, crispy prosciutto, cubed apple slices and caramelized onions topped with arugula and a light honey drizzle. Also ask about other pizzas now sold by the slice.
