Bobby Brown Says Bobbi Kristina Is ‘Always Present’ With Him

Bobby Brown will forever carry on the legacy of his late daughter, Bobbi Kristina. The Don’t Be Cruel crooner, 54, was honored for his work with the Bobbi Kristina Serenity House Foundation on Friday (Sept. 29) at the A World of Good Gala, hosted by Manuela Testolini’s In A Perfect World foundation.

He told PEOPLE that it’s meaningful for him to be able to do such good work in her honor, adding that she’s “always present” with him. “She’s always going to be present,” he repeated.

Brown and his wife, Alicia Etheredge, were jointly honored with the Movement Maker Award at this year’s gala.

“I am grateful for In a Perfect World. Thank you so much for this honor,” said the New Edition frontman. “We started this from the bottom of my heart, just being lonely and sad. [I’m grateful] that I could do something to help them out, to be there for them, to give them a safe haven in their time of need.”

Bobbi Kristina was the only child Brown had with ex-wife, Whitney Houston. In January 2015, she was found unresponsive in a bathtub, in a similar manner to how her mother had died years prior. The 22-year-old died months later in hospice.

At the time of her passing, Brown issued a statement that read, “Krissy was and is an angel. I am completely numb at this time. My family must find a way to live with her in spirit and honor her memory. Our loss is unimaginable. We thank everyone for the prayers for Krissy and our family as we mourn my baby girl.”
