Former Weinstein Company co-chairman Bob Weinstein has launched a new production and development company called Watch This Entertainment, an individual with knowledge of the company told TheWrap.
Weinstein’s goal with his new shingle is to produce two to three films a year, focusing on family films, comedies and adult thrillers. His first project will be the animated film “Endangered,” which he will produce with Tea Leoni. Leoni will also voice one of the characters, while French animation collective known as Illogic, comprised of Florian Babikian, Vincent Bayoux, Victor Caire, Théophile Dufresne, Gabriel Grapperon and Lucas Navarro, will direct and write the script. “Endangered” is inspired by a book written by Tim Flach.
However, Weinstein will not be distributing the films. Pantea Ghaderi, who formerly was the executive vice president of publicity at Dimension Films, will not hold the title of president of creative development at Watch This Entertainment.
Weinstein previously co-founded The Weinstein Company with his brother Harvey in 2005. Last year, the company announced that it would declare bankruptcy in the wake of sexual harassment and sexual assault allegations against Harvey. In May of 2018, Lantern Capital bought the studio in the bankruptcy auction, and Bob Weinstein left the company.
The brothers previously started Miramax and co-ran Dimension Films.
Deadline was the first to report the news. Leoni is represented by attorney Peter Nelson at Nelson David LLP, while Weinstein is represented by Mickey Mayerson at Paul Hastings.
A representative for Leoni has not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.
