Bob Saget, beloved star of Full House and America's Funniest Home Videos , dies at 65

Bob Saget, patriarch from Full House and host of America's Funniest Home Videos, has died at 65.

The comedian was in Orlando during a stop on his stand-up comedy tour when security from the Ritz Carlton where he was staying found him unresponsive in his room. The sheriff's department and fire department responded to the hotel's call and Saget was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials. The circumstances regarding his death are still unclear. TMZ was the first to report the news of Saget's passing.

Saget was best known for his role as Danny Tanner, the even-keeled dad on Full House from 1987 to 1995, as well as the Netflix reboot Fuller House, and his stint hosting America's Funniest Home Videos, from 1989 to 1997. Though he found success with wholesome family fare, Saget was also famous for his raunchy comedy.

He was in the middle of his stand-up tour and had performed in Jacksonville, Fl., on Saturday night at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, tweeting out a pic of himself after finishing his set, a little after midnight.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department confirmed Saget's death, stating that they found no signs of foul play or drug use. EW has reached out to Saget's reps for further details.

As a young comic, the Philadelphia-born Saget was invited by Rodney Dangerfield to perform on the 9th Annual Young Comedians Special on HBO, which helped launch his stand-up career, including doing audience warm-up on Bosom Buddies. "I became friends with both Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari. They were both unusually great guys," Saget previously told EW. "They even put me on the show once, as Bob the Comic."

Saget captured national attention with his starring role on family sitcom Full House, in which he played a single dad raising three precocious daughters. Two year's into the series he took on hosting duty, including comical narration, on America's Funniest Home Videos. Saget's other TV notable TV work included the sitcoms Raising Dad, Surviving Suburbia, and How I Met Your Mother, where he served as narrator throughout the run of the show as an older version of Ted Mosby (played on screen by Josh Radnor), before returning to his most beloved role on Fuller House.

He leaned into his raunchier comic sensibilities in his stand-up, talk show appearances, his 1998 feature film directorial debut Dirty Work starring Norm Macdonald (whom Saget paid tribute to last September following the actor's own untimely death), a memorable turn telling an incredibly dirty joke in 2005's The Aristocrats documentary, and playing a cocaine-fueled version of himself for an arc on HBO's Entourage. His comedy album, That's What I'm Talkin' About, was nominated for the Best Comedy Album Grammy in 2014.

The comedian stayed busy during the pandemic, launching a podcast series, Bob Saget's Here for You, secretly competing on Fox's The Masked Singer in a Squiggly Monster costume, doing a lip-sync to a Lizzo song, and returning to the road on a stand-up comedy tour. "I'm back in comedy like I was when I was 26. I guess I'm finding my new voice and loving every moment of it," Saget wrote on Instagram the night before his death.

During his "Pop Culture Personality Test" with EW in 2006, Saget answered our question about who should play him in his life story in his delightfully off-kilter way: "If she had not passed away, I would say Nancy Kulp, who played Jane Hathaway on The Beverly Hillbillies. The other choice would be Bea Arthur. I think she could do it. She's tall and she certainly knows how to deliver comedic material…. I think Stephen Colbert and I should play brothers in something."

Saget leaves behind wife Kelly Rizzo and three daughters, Aubrey, Lara, and Jennifer, who he shares with first wife Sherri Kramer.
