Bob Odenkirk Plays Stephen Colbert in Bizarre ‘Late Show: The Movie’

Bob Odenkirk stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to promote his new Netflix movie, Girlfriend’s Day. Although, while he was there, Bob also promoted another (fake) movie that he’s in, called The Late Show: The Movie, in which Bob plays Stephen Colbert.

After Stephen pretended to be upset that he wasn’t cast as himself in the movie, they played a clip from the upcoming film. In the clip, Bob came walking out just like Stephen does at the start of every show, and he said, “Shut up! Sit down! I’m Stephen Colbert! All right? What’s in the news today? I don’t know. Did everyone hear about Iran secretly testing nuclear missiles? Who cares? Hilarious.”

Stephen didn’t think Bob’s portrayal of him was very accurate, but his portrayal of Bob in the next clip from the movie wasn’t much better. And if the two comedians playing each other in a clip from a movie on the talk show that the movie is about wasn’t meta enough for you, that was just the beginning. Stephen, playing Bob, threw to another clip, in which he was playing Bob playing him hosting the show. It was all very confusing, and when that clip ended, the two didn’t know if they were back to real life or in some other clip.

Bob thought of a way to find out if they were still in a clip, saying, “I could, you know, stab your hand, and then if it hurts, well, then it’s the real world. If it doesn’t hurt, it’s just a special effect. We’re still in a clip then.” So Bob pulled out a knife and stabbed Stephen’s (fake) hand and yelled at the camera, “Gotcha! Stephen Colbert, you’re on Celebrity Hand Stab.”

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
