3. 'Beetlejuice'

Based on Tim Burton's beloved film, this hilarious musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange teenager whose life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes.

4. Home Brew Theatre VII

Experience a celebration of short plays by local authors, including Robb Willoughby, Bill Brohaugh and Lisa Holt, Eric Thomas, Teri Foltz, Keith Vanden Eynden, Christie Bishop, Alan Jozwiak, Jessie Faye, Peter D. Stavros and Fred Tacon. Eight of the 10 plays are world premieres. Enjoy a local craft brew during intermission and afterward with the actors, directors and writers.

5. Penguin Days

This is the final year for the penguin parades, as the zoo's aging king penguins retire. Parades take place at 11 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Feb. 25. It must be colder than 50 degrees for the penguins to participate.

The Weston Art Gallery opens three new exhibitions this weekend. Here's a look at each of them.

  • Brianna Gluszak: Late Bloomer: Artist’s site-specific installations incorporate hand-bent glass tubes that emanate light and color onto walls, corners, people and cardboard screens.

  • Aaron Peters: We Felt Everything Without: Artist utilizes various playful motifs, gendered forms, materials and captivating color to blur distinctions created between feminine and masculine ideals. Runs Jan. 19-March 3. Free. Westonartgallery.com.

  • Byproduct Studios: Perceptions of a Material’s Purpose: Molly Jo Burke and Nathan Gorgen’s collaborative artwork focuses on the use of excess materials from their daily lives to create “semi-functional” artwork that recalls domestic objects.

7. The (Improvised) Bachelorette

Real blind dates find themselves onstage while comedians create hilarious scenarios around the contestants. After the Bachelorette finds "the one," you can enjoy more improv comedy with the Kevin Bauer Power Hour, a fast-paced, hilarious show with "Whose Line is it Anyway?" style games and scenarios.

10. Asian Cuisine Week begins

Looking ahead to the coming week, Asian Cuisine Week returns for its fifth year. Running Jan. 22-28, you'll find more than 50 Asian restaurants throughout Greater Cincinnati taking part in this delicious event, which includes chef-curated dishes and secret menus. There's a kickoff party Monday at Knox Joseph Distillery where you can pick up an Asian Cuisine Week Passport to collect stickers from participating restaurants all week long, enjoy live music and sample small bites from some of the participating vendors. If you aren't able to attend the party, you can download the passport from Asianati's website.
