Bluey, Barbie, or Chucky: Plenty of costumes on trend for this Halloween season
PETOSKEY — As Oct. 31 approaches, people are busy picking out their costumes for the Halloween season.
At the Spirit Halloween at 1619 Anderson Road in Petoskey, displays show everything from Bluey to Barbie to Chucky.
On Wednesday afternoon, Maggie Wilp brought her two kids into the store to find their Halloween costumes. She said this is the first time she has brought them to the store to pick out their costumes themselves.
Her daughter, Lincoln Wilp, 6, wanted to dress up in the Spirit Halloween Mystical Mermaid costume, while her son, Cooper Wilp, 3, was set on being a pirate.
"I think he just wants the sword," Maggie joked.
She said the family typically goes around Indian River and Petoskey for trick-or-treating.
Originally from Arizona, Cynthia Gamez is celebrating her first Halloween in Northern Michigan. Now in Boyne Falls, Cynthia and her brother, Fernando Gamez, were looking for a costume for her and her 2-year-old son.
Cynthia said she had a goal of being Tiffany and to dress her son up as Chucky from the Child's Play horror series.
"I heard it's (Halloween) really popular up here, so I'm excited," she said.
Cynthia didn't have any issues finding the costumes she wanted, but she was nervous about keeping her son warm during a cold Michigan Halloween night.
On a vacation up from Frankenmuth, Sharon and Tim Wentworth stopped into the Spirit Halloween to grab a costume for their granddaughter before returning downstate.
The couple is taking their three grandkids trunk-or-treating this weekend, so they were on the clock for finalizing costumes.
She said they stopped into the store to find a Winifred Sanderson costume from "Hocus Pocus" for their granddaughter.
"My granddaughter wanted to be Winnie for Halloween, so we're trying to find a Winifred costume for her," Sharon said.
They said they've decorated at home to celebrate the Halloween season and are getting ready to pass out candy to trick-or-treaters.

Big Halloween fans, Gloria Loubert said she's taken her son, Damien Loubert, 4, to the Spirit Halloween multiple times this spooky season.
"He thinks its the Haunted House," she said.
Damien wanted to dress up as Knuckles from the Sonic series this year, an apt choice for a 3-year-old that loves to run.
Gloria said he picked out the costume a month and a half ago, and that every time it gets dark, Damien asks, "Is it Halloween yet?"
She said they celebrate the holiday with age-appropriate haunted houses, trick-or-treating and hanging out with Damien's friends.
