Nashville's treasured Bluebird Café might soon be headed to the Great White Way.

"Deadine" reported "Something Rotten!" co-creator Wayne Kirkpatrick and songwriter/producer Don Chaffer are working on a new musical called "Bluebird," said to highlight the legendary songwriter-focused venue that has been at least in part responsible for many successful careers.

Home to dozens of early performances by so many of country music's biggest names, including a teenage Taylor Swift, and a launching pad for a myriad of songwriters for decades, the intimate venue in a nondescript strip mall in Nashville's impact has always transcended its unassuming presence.

Kirkpatrick told "Deadline" that the Bluebird, "...is our Ryman Auditorium, our Carnegie Hall. If you know, you know. I can’t wait to share it with those who don’t."

Kirkpatrick went on to say in a statement, "To have the opportunity to tell the Nashville songwriter’s story within a theatrical setting is, for me, the best of both worlds. Don and I have created a parallel world to the real world that we know and love. This is truly a passion project for us. We have lived the songwriter’s life for over 30 years. It is our community and lifeblood, and we feel honored and fortunate to be a part of it.”

Specific details, including casting and a timeline for production, have not been disclosed. Stay tuned to The Tennessean for additional details as they become available.
