Blue Jays' rookie Tellez sets record on emotional evening
In a Toronto Blue Jays’ season that hasn’t had many highlights, this may just be the best moment yet.
On Wednesday in his first ever MLB plate appearance, Rowdy Tellez hit a double into the gap. While the hit marked a major milestone for the first baseman, there was a certain someone missing from the crowd that night. Tellez’s father, Greg, was not in attendance due to some uncontrollable circumstances.
Warning, get a box of tissues ready before this video starts. This one’s a tearjerker.

That is some pretty emotional stuff to take in. Although Tellez’s father missed his first hit, he was on hand to witness his son do something even more impressive on Thursday night.

Not a bad consolation at all. Missing his son get his first hit was obviously upsetting, but watching him set a MLB live-ball era record in person is pretty sweet.
