Blue Jays' Dalton Pompey clears waivers, sent to Triple-A Buffalo

Dalton Pompey’s career trajectory has changed significantly since 2015.

The Mississauga, Ont., native has gone from being a highly-touted prospect for the Toronto Blue Jays, to someone who has struggled mightily to put it together at the Major League level. On Tuesday, the Canadian cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo.

In 64 career MLB regular season games, Pompey has hit three home runs with eight stolen bases and a batting average of .221. He has missed the entirety of the 2019 season due to a concussion.

The outfielder’s past four seasons have clearly not gone as expected. Many recall the speedster being a problem for opposing teams on the base-paths during the 2015 post-season. In a pivotal Game 6 of the ALCS against the Kansas City Royals, he swiped a pair of bags in the ninth inning.

Here’s hoping that he can figure it out, but at 26-years-old, Pompey is running out of opportunities.
