Blue Beetle: Synopsis, Run Time

Xolo Maridueña stars as Jamie Reyes, a recent law school grad who returns home to find his family facing eviction. His life changes forever when he unexpectedly comes into possession of the Scarab, an ancient relic of alien biotechnology that transforms him into the superhero, Blue Beetle. Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, the film also stars George Lopez, Susan Sarandon, Bruna Marquezine and Harvey Guillén.

Blue Beetle is rated PG-13 and has a run time of two hours and seven minutes.

Blue Beetle was one of the major superhero films to premiere during the writers and actors strikes, and cast members had to forgo the usual star-studded red carpet debut and publicity tour. It took Barbies top spot at the box office when it debuted Aug. 18, opening to an estimated $25.4 million in North America.

“It’s heartbreaking,” Soto previously told The Hollywood Reporter of his cast not being able to promote the film. “This is their moment. We’ve never had a [studio superhero movie] that celebrates our culture, with characters who look like my family and many other families out there. So it’s a shame they cannot have the spotlight that they deserve.”
