Blue Angels, Icemen, 'Fluffy': Top 5 things to do this weekend in Jacksonville

The Blue Angels are in town this weekend for the Jacksonville Sea and Sky air show at the Beaches, and that's certainly something everybody ought to see at least once. But the air show isn't the only thing cooking in the Jacksonville area this weekend. We've gone of the hottest comedians in the world, a couple of events honoring the Allman Brothers Band's connection to the city and the home opener for the hockey team.

By the way, Buddy Guy's Friday night show at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre has been postponed. Tickets will be honored if the show is rescheduled. Refunds are available at point of purchase.

If you've ever been to the Chamblin Bookmine, you know that any book you'd ever need is in there but the trick is finding it. They'll crank up the challenge this weekend and next by turning off the lights from 6-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, then turning shoppers loose to wander through the darkened stacks. They'll have a few flashlights to lend out, and you're welcome to bring your own.

It's not every weekend that you get the Blue Angels buzzing your city. The Angels are scheduled to fly at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday over the Jacksonville Sea and Sky air show at Jacksonville Beach. Free parking is at FSCJ South Campus, with $10 round-trip shuttles running to the show.

Gabriel Iglesias is no joke. The man they call "Fluffy" is one of the world's most successful touring comedians, with 25 million social media followers, a billion views on YouTube and a hit Netflix series. Iglesias returns to VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena at 8 p.m. Friday on his Don't Worry Be Fluffy Tour. $49.50-$89.50.

The Allman Brothers Band formed in Riverside but hasn't played a show in years. The legacy lives on, however. The Blue Jay Sessions concert series returns to the Blue Jay Listening Room in Jacksonville Beach on Friday and Saturday with Melody and Vaylor Trucks (their father, Butch, was a founder of ABB) welcoming organist Peter Levin from the Gregg Allman Band and singer Lamar Williams Jr. from Les Brers and the Big Band of Brothers. Showtime is 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; tickets are $65-$85. On Sunday, author Alan Paul will be at Intuition Ale Works to discuss his latest book, "Brothers and Sisters," which looks at the Allmans' iconic 1973 album. He'll also join local band Smokestack for a set of ABB favorites.

Opening night

The Jacksonville Icemen play their first home game of the ECHL hockey season on Saturday, taking on the Florida Everblades at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. You can tell the fans are excited about the new season, since the game is nearly sold out. $29-$50.
