Bloody tears flow in creepy 'Killing of a Sacred Deer' trailer
Don’t let the bleeding eyeballs fool you: The new trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a visual treat.
Highlighting the deliciously disturbing relationship forged between a married surgeon, Steven (Colin Farrell), and a patient’s son, Martin (Dunkirk‘s Barry Keoghan), the fresh clip charts their curious ties and the subsequent suspicions cast by the former’s wife (Nicole Kidman) when bouts of paralysis plague their children.
“I’m really sorry about Bob,” Martin says after the boy loses the ability to control his legs, to which Steven replies that the ailment is “nothing serious.”
“No, it is,” Martin says. “They will all get sick and die. Bob will die. Kim will die. Your wife will die. Understand?”
Has Martin cursed the family, or have they simply fallen victim to a devastating coincidence? That’s the million-dollar question in the film, which is inspired by Greek tragedy and also stars Alicia Silverstone, Bill Camp, and Raffey Cassidy.
After premiering to positive reviews (and, as tradition would have it, a few boos) at the Cannes Film Festival in May — where the film shared the Best Screenplay prize with Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here — Sacred Deer continued its bid for awards attention with screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it similarly impressed movie critics.
