"Sleepy Hollow" star Tom Mison, 30, is playing a fish out of water in Fox's new series as a modern-day Ichabod Crane who's been revived to fight crime (and a certain headless horseman — you know the drill) after being frozen for 250 years.
"Ichabod is the lens through whom we can view our world," explained executive producer Alex Kurtzman. "He's put to sleep before the country came together. He died fighting for our ideals, and when he is awakened, the questions are, 'How are they fulfilling the promise [of the revolution], and how are they betraying them?'"
As for the horseman, who's also been brought back to life since biting it on a Revolutionary War battlefield, "we're able to see how he operates, and if he were to be with modern-day weapons, would he take note of that and adapt to that," Kurtzman said.

Thursday it was Mison's turn to embrace the unknown. The actor, who's best known for Brit fare like "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" and BBC's Emmy-nominated "Parade's End," was in Los Angeles to promote his breakout American role in the Fox thriller (which premieres Sept. 16) at the Television Critics Association's press tour.
Mison, sporting a shorter 'do, shared his busy day with Yahoo! TV. He turned the camera on himself and his co-stars — capturing everything from the show's costumes and fellow stars Orlando Jones, Katia Winter, and Nicole Beharie to a midday cupcake break and a scenic dinner party at the exclusive Soho House in Hollywood — for our Instagram account.
In case you didn't catch Mison's Instagram takeover as it was happening, we've assembled his best snapshots for this exclusive photo slideshow. Check it out, and be sure to follow Yahoo! TV on Instagram!
