Remember Michonne's guard zombies, the pair of armless, jawless walkers who accompanied her everywhere and helped her maneuver through zombieland at the beginning of "The Walking Dead" Season 3?

Turns out that while they were probably very fun roles to play, they also required the actors portraying them to temporarily give up something major: their ability to see.

In the clip above, a featurette that will appear in the upcoming "Walking Dead" Season 3 DVD and Blu-ray box set, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd and executive producer/special effects supervisor Greg Nicotero discuss the process of turning actors Moses J. Moseley and Theshay West into the pets, which involved "sculpting forward" their faces and inch and a half and putting fake eyes on top of their real eyes.

"Basically, the guys are blind," says Nicotero, while Hurd jokes that the pets provided Michonne with "the fashionable accessory of the season."

The feature is a great behind-the-scenes peek for fans, who can see how makeup, prosthetics, and special effects work together to create the awesome visuals we take for granted in each "Walking Dead" episode.
