Hawes, who currently stars on the BBC2 drama "Line of Duty," will pop up in a Season 8 episode as Delphox, "a powerful out of this world character with a dark secret," according to BBC America.

Says "Who" producer and writer Steven Moffat, "Anyone watching Jed Mercurio's amazing 'Line of Duty' will know that Keeley Hawes is having one hell of year. And now it's about to get even better as she achieves the greatest villainy yet attempted on Doctor Who: She plays a banker."

Season 8 of "Doctor Who" is currently filming for a planned fall premiere of 12 episodes that will lead into the series Christmas special. Capaldi's Who and his companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) will meet Delphox "when they arrive on a strange and puzzling planet" during the season.

Says Hawes, who also had roles in "The Avengers" and "The Bank Job" movies, "I am delighted to join 'Doctor Who' and to be working with this incredible team. Ms. Delphox is a great character and someone I've had a lot of fun playing."

"Doctor Who" Season 8 will premiere later this year on BBC America.
